When should you get an STI test and what does it include?
It is a good idea to get an STI test if you have a new partner, if your partner tested positive, if you have symptoms or as part of your annual checkup. A complete panel checks for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B and C, and herpes.
STD or STI?
They mean the same thing. "STD" stands for sexually transmitted disease and "STI" for sexually transmitted infection. STI is preferred today because many infections have no symptoms.
When to get tested
- If you have a new partner or several partners.
- If your partner tested positive.
- If you have symptoms such as burning, discharge or sores.
- As part of your annual checkup.
Some infections take weeks to show up in tests. At your visit we tell you the best time.
